Chi for Two embodiment coach training will prepare you to invite clients to more fully exist in their bodies by more fully existing in their relationships.

Coaches who become certified in our program gain a rich therapeutic framework and learn partner practices, which are attachment-based, trauma-sensitive and polyvagal-informed

“Chi For Two has enhanced how I do therapy with clients, it’s changing my way of doing business, how I love and how I live life. It’s connected me back to my navel-radiating, free-flowing, whole adult self. That sounds gushy and yet it’s the fact. I can’t recommend it enough. I wish there were thousands of certified embodiment coaches.”

— Mukti Jarvis, Certified Emotionally Focused Couple Therapist, also accredited with the International Center for Non-violent Communications (2005)

“I trained in the Chi for Two embodiment coach training program. I am currently successfully using the embodiment practices with all my couples and individual clients.”

— Ateeka Contee, Licensed Counselor, Certified IMAGO Therapist, Registered Yoga Teacher 500 Hours

Becoming a certified Chi for Two Embodiment Coach is a two-year process.

The first year is Chi for Two Immersion. In Year-one, we dive deep into theory and application experientially. The second year is certification. In Year-two training, you can begin to use the title Chi for Two Coach. The second year involves a great deal of supervision of use of the Chi for Two perspective and practices in work with clients.

Chi for Two coach training will add to any existing work you do as a helping professional because Chi for Two training brings a deep understanding of the therapeutic relationship. Science now helps us recognize how all one-on-one therapeutic relationships stir unfinished infant/parent patterning. These early developmental interactions—often passed down from generation to generation—affect our nervous system functioning.

Each year involves:

  • A weekly hour and a half training group session for which we set a fee between $130-$220 per month based on income.

  • An every-other-week individual session with a trainer to experience one-on-one work. Fees for individual sessions slide between $95-$220 based on income.

  • Trainees are invited to attend the online Art of Yoga classes for no additional fee. Online classes (for trainees only) are Tuesdays 5-6pm Eastern Time. Public in-person classes at Harbor of Dreams Art are Fridays from 5-6:30pm Eastern Time.

Chi for Two Embodiment Coaching and ISMETA—

The International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association

Chi for Two training program graduates are eligible to become Associate Somatic Movement Professionals (ASMP) with 250 hours of training, or Registered Somatic Movement Educators or Therapists (RSMEs or RSMTs) with 500 hours of training. Details below:

Chi For Two Embodiment Coach training brings awareness of the energetic dance of the therapeutic relationship to all somatic therapy modalities. Chi for Two draws from dance/movement therapy's understanding of kinesthetic empathy and the Pesso Boyden System Psychomotor (PBSP) awareness of child/parent interaction, among many other modalities, to deepen mindfulness of two-person interactions in which there exists a built-in power differential—child/parent, student/teacher, client/coach, client/therapist, employee/boss. For this reason, the Chi for Two training program has been approved by ISMETA.

After receiving their certification in the 180-hour certification program, Chi for Two Embodiment Coaches who would like an ISMETA credential can join a weekly supervision group to gain 50 of the 250 hours needed to gain the ISMETA credential Associate Somatic Movement Professional.

In addition to the year-long 1-hour weekly supervision group, certified Chi for Two Embodiment Coaches seeking the ASMP credential do two 10-hour weekend Trainings. Coaches do a 10-hour weekend training focused on the ISMETA Pillars of the Profession and how they are fulfilled within the Chi for Two Embodiment Coach training program, plus the required 10-hour Chi for Two Certification Maintenance weekend.

Chi for Two embodiment coach certification – 180 hours

Plus the following 70 hours:

Weekly supervision group – 50 hours

10-hr weekend training with ISMETA focus – 10 hours

10-hr Chi for Two Certification Maintenance weekend – 10 hours

250 hours required for ASMP

Chi for Two® Trainer-in-training Program

Upon receiving the ASMP credential from ISMETA, Certified Chi for Two® Embodiment Coaches can apply for the 250-hour Chi for Two® Trainer-in-training program. Only ASMP credentialed certified Chi for Two Embodiment Coaches will be considered for the program.

Trainers-in-training participate in a two-year Embodiment Coach training, shadowing the trainer and taking on the various training pieces to demonstrate their ability to train Chi for Two Embodiment Coaches. During the two years, Trainers-in-training do an every-other-week 1-hour One-on-one Training with a Trainer to fine-tune their nuanced awareness of the therapeutic dyadic dance, in order to hold Circles of Support for trainees who can come from many different backgrounds: psychotherapy, dance/movement therapy, massage therapy, education and business.

Trainers-in-training also participate in an every-other-week 1-hour supervision group along with other Trainers-in-training where they can share their challenges and their successes. Because Chi for Two brings awareness to the energetic dance of dyadic relationships, One-on-one Training combined with Group Training help Embodiment Coaches and Trainers recognize that even in therapeutic group sessions, teachers/therapists/coaches/bosses do energetic dyadic dances with each student/client/employee.

After completing the 250-hour Trainer-in-training program, Trainers gain the ISMETA credential Registered Somatic Movement Educator/Therapist.

Certified Chi for Two Embodiment Coaches who are ASMPs can complete the 2-yr Trainer-in-training certification:

Participation in weekly group 1 1/2 hour certified Chi for Two Embodiment Coach Training Program - 132 hours

Every-other-week 1-hr One-on-one Training - 48 hours

Every-other-week 1-hr supervision group with other Trainers-in-training - 50 hours

Two 10-hour (once per year) Certification Maintenance weekend Trainings - 20 hours
